Best Search and Destroy Class Setup Black Ops 2

A brand new update has finally hit Black Ops Cold War. There has been a host of new changes to the game including the introduction of presets, change in the core movement, and the addition of Express. It is a lot to unpack as most parts of the game have been impacted.

To start off, the addition of Express to Cold War has been exciting. Will it be added for Search & Destroy or Control? Time will tell, but the map looks very good. It seems like it would play nicely in SnD and has two good placed control points as well. If the map is added to the map pool it would be a welcomed change.

The major parts of the update were changes to the movement and the presentation of the preset classes. The movement was tweaked so that players have a jumping cool down after each jump. Jumpshots have effectively been nerfed, as the movement is very reminiscent of the Black Ops 4 movement. It will be interesting how this affects how teams play.

Preset classes were what many were waiting for. Treyarch added 15 classes for players to pick from in competitive play. It includes 7 Krig classes, 6 AK74u classes, and 2 stacked XM4 classes. There is a nice variety of perks and attachments, which is certainly welcomed. This should combat the talk of GAs and provide an even playing field for competitors.

This article will breakdown each of the classes, including how they stack up against each other and any major changes between classes with the same weapon. Let us know which classes you like best and what additions you would like to see in the future.

XM4

The meta has started to shift in recent weeks as a new weapon has started to take over. The XM4 has proved to be the weapon of choice for flex players, as it is great at all ranges and has a high fire rate. It was very strong on the 60 hz servers according to the players from Kickoff Weekend. It beats out the Krig in the medium range fights and is able to contend long range. The XM4 beats the 74u at medium range as well, which gives it a big range where it reigns king. It a fantastic utility weapon that can keep up with the AK74u.

The King's Rook [Flak]

We named each class to help distinguish each class. We named the stacked XM4 class the Rook. The XM4 is versatile at all ranges, certainly a crucial piece on the board for teams, hence the nickname Rook. The first variation of the stacked XM4 has Flak Jacket as its 1st perk, which distinguishes it from the second XM4 class. The attachments are:

  • Microflex Sights
  • Infantry Compensator
  • Extended Barrel
  • Field Agent Grip
  • 40 Round Magazine
  • Airborne Elastic Handle
  • Raider Stock

For perks, the class has only one from each category due to the use of the Gunfighter Wildcard.

  • Flak Jacket
  • Scavenger
  • Ninja

Rounding out the class is the Diamatti pistol. It is the standard pistol across all preset classes. It's four attachments are:

  • Muzzle Brake
  • Chrome Lined Barrel
  • 24 Round Magazine
  • Speed Tape Handle

Gunfighter classes obviously increase a lot of values on guns due to having 7 attachments that have a lot of pros. This class increases the three important speed categories (Sprint out speed, Strafe speed, ADS). It also decreases both recoil and flinch, bullet velocity is increased, and the 40 round mag increases ammo at the cost of a longer reload time. It's the weapon build every flex will run on smaller maps.

The Queen's Rook [Tac]

The second and last XM4 class is a gunfighter build with Tac Mask as the 1st perk instead of Flak Jacket. The weapon builds are both the same, as are the remaining perks and utility.

As a reminder, the attachments are:

  • Microflex Sights
  • Infantry Compensator
  • Extended Barrel
  • Field Agent Grip
  • 40 Round Magazine
  • Airborne Elastic Handle
  • Raider Stock

With the three perks being:

  • Tac Mask
  • Scavenger
  • Ninja

The weapon statistics are the same as the Rook Flak class as seen below. Players have their preferences on whether they prefer Tac or Flak. It also depends on the opponent. Certain teams are better at throwing semtex over the flashes, or the other way around. Also, if your team is better at throwing trophies and effectively limiting the damage of the utility. It will be interesting to watch which class gets pick more other the other.

AK74u

The second power weapon currently in the meta is the AK74u. It is a do-it-all weapon that dominates the short range and is able to compete at the remaining ranges. Although it is just an SMG, the easy to handle recoil and good range allows it to battle against both the Krig & XM4. Its not the traditional high rate of fire, CQC SMG that we sometimes see run the meta. It is more reminiscent of the MTAR before its nerf in Ghosts or the ASM1 in Advanced Warfare. Many in the community still believe that the AK74u is the best gun in the game and these are the 6 preset classes for the weapon.

The Queen's Knight

The first AK74u class we look at is the Flak/Tac & Muzzle Brake build. With no Gunfighter AK74u classes in the presets, each of the 6 classes have different variations of Flak Jacket, Tactical Mask, and Engineer and either Muzzle Brake or Compensator. This build has the Muzzle Break on the barrel and both Flak Jacket & Tactical Mask from slot 1. This is the best build to run around the map and do-it-all.

The attachment on the main weapon are:

  • Extended Barrel
  • Spetsnaz Speedgrip
  • GRU Elastic Wrap Handle
  • KGB Skeletal Stock
  • Muzzle Brake

The three perks included are:

  • Flak Jacket
  • Tactical Mask
  • Ninja

The AK74u is significantly upgraded from its base version to the preset build. The Extended Barrel increases the bullet velocity by 30%. The Speed grip, Elastic Wrap, and Skeletal stock all helped increase multiple speed categories. Those include ADS, strafe speed, sprint out speed, and sprint speed. This combination helps SMG beat out ARs to specific locations off break-offs and spawns. The muzzle brake also helps decrease recoil and flinch as well. This is an extremely strong weapon that is a terror on the map.

The Light Knight

The second AK74u class with Muzzle Brake within the preset classes is the Light Knight. It has Engineer on the class instead of Tactical Mask. That is the major change between the two classes. It allows SMG players to seek out trophies and take them out to allow their team's utility to be more effective. Tracking how often we see classes with Engineer will be very interesting.

The attachment on the main weapon are:

  • Extended Barrel
  • Spetsnaz Speedgrip
  • GRU Elastic Wrap Handle
  • KGB Skeletal Stock
  • Muzzle Brake

The three perks included are:

  • Flak Jacket
  • Engineer
  • Ninja

The Queen's Jumper

The final AK74u Muzzle Brake class is nicknamed the Queen's Jumper. It is different from the previous two classes in the three perks are Tactical Mask, Engineer, and Ninja. It is the same as the previous class, but swaps Flak for Tac. For SMG players looking to run Engineer its a great alternative.

The attachment on the main weapon are:

  • Extended Barrel
  • Spetsnaz Speedgrip
  • GRU Elastic Wrap Handle
  • KGB Skeletal Stock
  • Muzzle Brake

The three perks included are:

  • Tactical Mask
  • Engineer
  • Ninja

The King's Knight

We have finally made it to an AK74u class that has a new attachment. This preset has the Compensator on it instead of the Muzzle Brake. This will certainly be one of the most used AK74u classes, along with the Queen's Knight. With the compensator on the weapon, there is decreased vertical recoil but an 8% increase in horizontal recoil compared to the class with Muzzle Brake on. While some players prefer the compensator, it harder to handle horizontal recoil compared to vertical recoil for most users. It'll be something to watch to see which attachment is used more.

The attachment on the main weapon are:

  • Extended Barrel
  • Spetsnaz Speedgrip
  • GRU Elastic Wrap Handle
  • KGB Skeletal Stock
  • Spetsnaz Compensator

The three perks included are:

  • Flak Jacket
  • Tactical Mask
  • Ninja

The Dark Knight

Like the Light Knight class above, this preset class switches Tactical Mask for Engineer. It's a small change, but will limit the use of the class, as not many engineer classes are need on the map at a time. With the current form of Semtex grenades, it may be easier to dodge them over flashbang grenades. Here is how the class breaks down:

The attachment on the main weapon are:

  • Extended Barrel
  • Spetsnaz Speedgrip
  • GRU Elastic Wrap Handle
  • KGB Skeletal Stock
  • Spetsnaz Compensator

The three perks included are:

  • Flak Jacket
  • Engineer
  • Ninja

The King's Jumper

The final AK74u preset class is the Tactical Mask and Engineer build. The class switches out Flak Jacket for Tactical Mask, making the player almost immune to the flashbangs. As mentioned before, the difference in multiple of these presets is very small and mostly up to what makes the individual player more comfortable on the map that day. If they are having a tough time dealing with flashbangs compared to semtex grenades, and have to use Engineer, this may be the class they turn to.

The attachment on the main weapon are:

  • Extended Barrel
  • Spetsnaz Speedgrip
  • GRU Elastic Wrap Handle
  • KGB Skeletal Stock
  • Spetsnaz Compensator

The three perks included are:

  • Tactical Mask
  • Engineer
  • Ninja

Krig 6

The longest-standing weapon in the meta currently, the Krig is a long-range laser of a weapon. It specializes in long-range engagements and having almost no recoil. This makes it very effective for Main ARs and flex players to use on the bigger maps like Checkmate and Moscow. It may not be the strongest weapon in the current meta but it certainly has its place.

There are 7 Krig preset classes now in the game. We nicknamed the Krig classes Bishop due to its effectiveness in long-range fights while still able to win some at any other range. Each of the 7 classes have some variation of the Bishop chess piece.

The Queen's Bishop

The first class we will look at is the stacked Krig with a Microflex sight. This is one of the two stacked classes for the Krig in the presets. Stacked means that the wildcard used is Gunfighter and allows you to stack the weapon with 7 attachments in competitive. The gun is fully upgraded, having almost no recoil and good speed statistics. Here is a breakdown of the entire class:

The attachment on the main weapon are:

  • Microflex Sight
  • Infantry Compensator
  • Ranger Barrel
  • Field Agent Grip
  • 40 Round Magazine
  • Airbourne Elastic Wrap
  • Raider Stock

The three perks included are:

  • Tactical Mask
  • Scavenger
  • Ninja

As usual for stacked classes, many values have been increased on the weapon. The bullet velocity has been increased 100% to 1250 m/s from the Range Barrel. The three important speed categories are also increased significantly. The recoil and flinch have also been decreased significantly from the Infantry Compensator and Field Agent Grip. Finally, the 40 Round Magazine is in play, increasing the ammo at the cost of a slower reload speed. It's a very strong class to hold down lanes and rip players off head glitches.

The King's Bishop

The second stacked Krig class is known as the King's Bishop. Due to many of the AR players having a strong preference between the Millstop and Microflex sight. They each have slightly different POVs, enough to make players prefer one over the other. This small change will be common within the Krig classes. Unfortunately, this means that both stacked classes only have Tactical Mask instead of Flak Jacket. All of the other attachments and perks stay the same in the class besides the sight. Here is the breakdown:

The attachment on the main weapon are:

  • Microflex Sight
  • Infantry Compensator
  • Ranger Barrel
  • Field Agent Grip
  • 40 Round Magazine
  • Airbourne Elastic Wrap
  • Raider Stock

The three perks included are:

  • Tactical Mask
  • Scavenger
  • Ninja

The final 5 Krig classes

The remainder of the preset classes are a variation of 5 attachment Krigs. The only difference in the classes is whether the sight is a Millstop or Microflex and what the combination between Flak, Tac, and Engineer the class has. The 5 attachment Krig is still a very strong weapon, but the weakest of the 5 different weapon builds in the meta (Stacked XM4/Krig, AK74u Brake/Compensator are all stronger). These classes are all still very good and have their place in the meta. Here are the 5 remaining classes:

The Dark Bishop – Flak/Tac with Microflex

Created with GIMP

The Light Bishop – Flak/Tac with Millstop

The Hunter – Flak/Engineer with Millstop

The Elephant – Flak/Engineer with Microflex

The Runner – Tac/Engineer with Millstop

It is actually very interesting to see 5 classes taken up by very similar classes, but each have 1 to 2 differences. Tracking how many times each class is picked in matches is something that the Breaking Point team will be tracking to show which classes are most popular. Here is how the 5 attachment Krig breaks down in terms of weapon statistics:

There is still a lot of similarities between the 5-attachment Krig and the stacked Krig on this chart. With the 40 round mag removed, the ammo and reload speed are no longer affected. The class doesn't have the Infantry Compensator any longer, so the only attachment affecting the recoil is the field agent grip. The bullet velocity is increased 100%, the recoil & flinch are both down, and multiple speed categories are increased. The sprint out time, strafe speed, and ADS speed are all increased from 15% to 30%. The only negative to class is that the shooting movement speed, hip-fire accuracy and idle sway are all decreased. It's a dent to the gun, but nothing major.
